Choose how you run it
Who hosts Reqursor Development, who bills the AI usage, where model requests go, and who handles updates and backups, for each way of running it.
Reqursor Development works a ticket the same way however you run it. What differs is who hosts it, who bills the AI usage, and which path a model request takes.
It is sold two ways, side by side: Hosted with Reqursor Credits and Self-hosted with your own key. A license is one or the other. The plan price is the same; the own-key plan includes no credits because your provider bills you for AI usage.
| Hosted with Reqursor Credits | Self-hosted with your own key | |
|---|---|---|
| Who hosts it | Reqursor. There is nothing to install. | You, on your own Linux server, with Docker or the bare-metal installer, or on a Windows machine. |
| Who bills AI usage | Reqursor. AI work is paid with Reqursor Credits: included credits per plan, plus top-ups. | Your model provider, directly. You connect your own Anthropic API key or Moonshot AI key (beta). |
| What the plan price covers | The software and the plan's included credits. | The software only: a platform-only fee with no AI usage and no credits in it. |
| The data path | Model requests pass through Reqursor's inference relay to the model provider. | Model requests go straight from your server to your provider and never through Reqursor. |
| Updates and backups | Reqursor operates the install and applies updates. | You apply updates, take backups and keep the master key. |
| How to start | Start with credits, or buy a plan on Reqursor Credits. No API key needed. | Buy a plan with Your own key chosen at checkout, then install it on your machine. |
| What it offers to buy | Reqursor Credits only: Start with credits and plans on Reqursor Credits. | Your own key only: a license key you enter, or a plan for your own key. |
Hosted with Reqursor Credits
- Who hosts it. Reqursor hosts your dashboard at
<slug>.rqrs.dev. There is nothing to install or keep updated on your side. - Who bills AI usage. Reqursor does. AI work is paid with Reqursor Credits: your plan comes with included credits, and you can buy top-ups. You need no API key and no account at a model provider. See Reqursor Credits.
- The data path. Your install runs on servers that Reqursor operates, so its working copy of your repository, your tickets and the run history are stored there. Model requests, which hold the ticket text and the code the agent reads or writes, pass through Reqursor's inference relay to the model provider. See What leaves your infrastructure.
- Updates and backups. Reqursor operates the install and applies updates. The Docker and bare-metal steps in these docs do not apply to you.
- How to start. Choose Start with credits, or buy a plan, from the pricing page. Reqursor then prepares your dashboard and emails you its address when it is ready. Its first screen asks for a setup code: use the one in the email that brought your license key. Then follow the setup wizard.
- What it offers to buy. A dashboard that Reqursor hosts offers Reqursor Credits only: Start with credits and plans on Reqursor Credits. It does not offer your own key.
Self-hosted with your own key
- Who hosts it. You do. You install Reqursor Development on your own Linux server, with Docker or with the bare-metal installer, or on a Windows machine. On Windows the agent runs without the isolation the Linux installs give it, so use a machine you dedicate to it. See Installation.
- Who bills AI usage. Your model provider bills you directly. You connect your own Anthropic API key, or your own Moonshot AI key (beta). The plan price you pay Reqursor is a platform-only fee: it covers the software and includes no AI usage and no credits. See Connecting Claude.
- The data path. Model requests go straight from your server to your provider and never through Reqursor. Code and ticket text leave the install only to the model provider you configured, your git remote and the integrations you configured. The install still contacts the Reqursor license server: for activation, for a daily heartbeat with documented metadata, and for update checks. See What leaves your infrastructure.
- Updates and backups. They are yours. You apply updates, take backups and keep the master key. See Backups, updates and rollback.
- How to start. Buy Solo, Starter or Team on the pricing page and choose Your own key at checkout. Your license key arrives by email, and you use it to install. You can also install first and choose Buy license in the setup wizard. On Enterprise, your own key is arranged through sales.
- What it offers to buy. A self-hosted install offers your own key only: its setup wizard and its License & billing page take a license key, or sell a plan for your own key.
There is no self-serve trial for your own key. To evaluate a self-hosted install before you buy, contact Reqursor.
A self-hosted install shows no Start with credits and sells no plan on Reqursor Credits. Reqursor Credits come with the version Reqursor hosts: start it from the pricing page.
Changing later
A license is for one way of running or the other, and you cannot switch it yourself in the dashboard. To change an existing license, contact Reqursor: the change is made for you. See Licensing & billing.
A hosted install runs on Reqursor Credits only, so using your own key always means a self-hosted install. An offline license file (Enterprise) is own key only.
