Ask for a plan first

Have the agent read your repository and write a plan, with questions and proposed acceptance criteria, before any code is written.

Not sure how a piece of work should be built, or whether the ticket is ready? Open a draft or ready ticket and press Ask For a Plan. A title and a description are enough: acceptance criteria are not required. You can also use Create and Ask For a Plan on the new ticket form.

What you get

The agent reads your repository and writes a plan, then stops. The plan shows on the ticket:

  • the open questions you need to answer before it can be built
  • proposed acceptance criteria, each marked required or optional
  • suggested tickets, a split into smaller pieces when the work is large
  • the risks

What it does not do

A plan writes no code and changes nothing in your repository. It does not create a branch, push, open a pull request or write to your tracker. The ticket keeps its status and you can keep editing it. While a plan is being made the ticket cannot be run, and while the ticket is queued or running no plan can be asked.

Using the plan

  • Use Selected Criteria adds the proposed criteria you tick to the ticket, like any edit.
  • Create Draft Tickets creates the suggested tickets you tick as draft tickets in the same project, labeled from-plan, for you to review.
  • Ask Again asks for a new plan. Add a note with your answers and any steering. The next plan sees your note and the previous plan. Every plan is kept on the ticket, and a plan is marked stale once the ticket has changed since it was made.
  • Mark ready and run appears on a draft that already has a plan: it makes the ticket ready and starts it in one step.

When you later run the ticket and its newest plan is not stale, the run's own plan stage, if your project has that stage turned on (it is off by default), starts from that plan and may adopt or correct it. The stage is never skipped because a plan exists.

What it costs

A plan costs one plan stage and is paid like any run, and it counts toward your budgets.

On Reqursor Credits, you pay for it in credits.

With your own key, it is billed by your model provider.
